2020 was an unusual year due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
I feel fortunate to be in the tech industry which meant that I and others at Luno were able to work from home and generally continue as usual.
After being careful for the whole year, our family ended up getting infected with the virus just before Christmas. It was unpleasant but no worse than a common cold (which I also had in January) - a couple of days of fever and that was about it.
Working from home has been a positive experience overall. I’ve enjoyed skipping the daily commute on the underground. However, sitting on video calls for whole days at a time is draining.
Even aside from the dislocations due to the virus, it was an eventful year for me too:
My son was born. Having the baby in our lives has been a big adjustment.
Luno was acquired by DCG. I’ve been working on Luno for almost 8 years and this acquisition was an important milestone for the company. Luno has a bright future ahead and I will be continuing to work there.
The markets have been fascinating to watch this year. Bitcoin reached new all time highs.
It’s been an exciting year of scientific discovery and technological advances. Two examples were the mRNA vaccines and the Wolfram Physics project.
I’m feeling optimistic for 2021 and the decade ahead. I’m looking forward to the vaccine roll out and being able to travel again.
